Saving Lives and Minds (SLAM) Academic Performance Program is an academically-focused after school effort offering a creative and interactive learning experience for children from kindergarten to fifth grade. The program enhances a child’s academic and social development achievement by providing homework assistance, reading and math instruction, and enrichment activities that focus on improving achievement, encourages the pursuit of higher education and STEM learning.

CBM Summer Camp Experience. Provides children and youth from ages 4-13 with a full-day extended “summer camp” experience for 6 weeks after the end of the academic year. A key goal of the CBM Summer Camp Experience is to prevent “summer learning loss” and offer a “camp” experience equal to those available at higher incomes.

The CBM Summer Camp Experience is the Organization’s summer enrichment program, which offers children a free extended “summer camp” experience to low-income families in the District of Columbia. For approximately eight weeks following the academic school year, students participate in activities that offer enrichment in the arts, science and sports, as well as field trips and end-of-summer showcases.

In addition to enriching the learning that takes place over course of the school year, the program offers mentoring by CBM staff and volunteers as well as peer leadership training for older youth, which includes life skills education, conflict resolution, anger management and leadership development.

CBM CARES® National Mentoring Initiative is a nationwide mentoring initiative of Concerned Black Men of America (CBM). The program is a uniquely designed mentoring initiative that combines a school-based, group mentoring process with a one-to-one mentoring experience to specifically support boys enrolled in middle school in targeted public & charter schools. The CBM CARES® Mentoring Initiative seeks to serve a minimum of 1000 boys  annual by improving academic performance, school attachment, self-image/self-worth and reducing the number of unexcused school absences.

CBM encourages men of goodwill to mentor boys of color in one of eleven CBM CARES® National Mentoring Initiative sites across the country.   There are opportunities to become a one-to-one mentor or a group session mentor to middle schools boys in major cities in the nation.   APPLY NOW
